OCTOBER SATURDAY OUTING - YANDINA CREEK WETLANDS

This was our first club outing to Yandina Creek Wetlands - a conserved wetland thanks to the initial actions of one Greg Roberts and the final purchase and protection through the agency of Unitywater. Our local group has been active in completing a series of surveys at the site however this was the first visit since part of the site has been opened up for public access.

And what a roll up. Approximately 35 people turned up. An excellent number which necessitated splitting into a number of small groups.

Excellent bird spotting...was enjoyed..

Despite limited birds on the low tide affected wetland we still manged to record circa 55 species for our morning.

Brown Quail were calling from the grasslands adjacent to the carpark with one bird seen well on the pathway. Cisticolas, Tawny Grassbirds and Chestnut breasted Mannikins completed the grassland species.

A Black necked Stork, initially rescued from a motorway accident but now fit, was released  at the wetland and seen as we drove from the site.

Fantastic to see the stork and fantastic to see so many new and familiar faces at our outing.
