Another good bird at Finland Road

Some good birds yesterday...

Recently returned from China Birding  - will post some pics etc soon - and went for a few hours birding yesterday and some of the highlights below.

At Parklakes yesterday a Striped Honeyeater was showing well; in addition to a Spotless Crake.

A nice Spotted Harrier was showing well between Yandina and Bli Bli.

At Finland Road there was [as always] a good variety of birds. The highlights were a pair of Black-necked Storks. There was a nesting pair of Black-shouldered Kites plus a flock of 10 Black Kites.

At Wappa Dam Nankeen Night Heron was seen at its regular roost while on the water Great Crested Grebes and Jacanas remained common. Cotton Pygmy Geese were absent.

At the North Arm dam [near the school] there was a good flock of Magpie Geese and Plumed Whistling Ducks. As well a large feral but beautiful Mute Swan.

JUNE OUTINGS

Dear all,

For pretty much the month of June I with a few other birders will be away on a birding tour to China. If you are interested in our adventure you might occasionally check out my blog, imaginatively titled Ken Cross in China - http://kencrossinchina.blogspot.com.au/

If you might be interested in any further birding trips please email me to be placed on a mailing list.

While I am away our outings of course will continue.

First up will be a Saturday morning outing, on the 4 June, to meet at the Noosa Botanic Gardens carpark at Lake Macdonald, Lake Macdonald Drive for an 8am start. We will bird the gardens and lake for around 2 hours, return to the carpark for morning tea and our first bird call. Toilets on site, don't forget your chair.

Then a short 8km drive to the southern end of the lake at Jabiru Park, park at the end of Grange Road, left off the Cooroy-Noosa Road. We will check-out birds from Fearnley Hide and along the road until a final bird call, finishing before lunch, or earlier for those who wish.

This walk will be led by Russ Lamb.

Second there will be a mid week walk led by John Kooistra to Park Lakes at Bli Bli. This walk will be on the 15 June and again the walk will begin at 8am. Please note that there are no toilet facilities on site. Please bring morning tea and a chair. There may be an opportunity for some birding at nearby sites after bird call.
