Hello all
The March Saturday outing is coming very soon.
Please note that the date of the Toorbul outing has been
changed from the 18th to the 11th. The reason for the
change is the suitability of the tide. On the 11th the high tide is
expected at 9-20am.
So, we will meet at 7am at the southern end of the Toorbul
esplanade on the 11th of March. Ken Cross and perhaps others will
lead the walk. Obviously the focus will be on migratory waders however there
are good bush birds and, at the other end of the esplanade, there are a few
decent mangrove species. Please remember to stop and check out the wetland
[dryland] on the way into the Toorbul area.
As stated the high tide is expected at 9-20am so an arrival
time at 7 allows for a couple of hours observing the birds as they are pushed
higher by the rising tide.
It should be possible to have a rush around to Bribie to see
what species are roosting at Kakadu Beach as usually there is some contrast
between the species at the different sites.
As usual please bring your own chair, cuppa, drinking water,
hat, sunscreen etc. And cameras and bins [as in binoculars…]. Scopes are always
useful at wader sites, too!
Cheers for now,
Ken
