May Outing - Mooloolah River Walk

All went well on Saturday for our May outing to Mooloolah River Walk despite the weather turning wintry with 8C yesterday morning and 17C max.

For our last 7am start and as stated cooler temperatures still 24 people attended and recieved the rewards of recording 60 species [54 sighted plus an additional half a dozen heard only. The first bird flew over before the official start; a Grey Goshawk.

Not quite a bird... ID please?

Notable among sightings was a wedgie being chased by crows at tree top height-two passes over, a Hobby made a fleeting pass over. A Tawny grass bird made a brief showing in a patch of long grass. Scarlet honeyeaters were calling all round.

At the end of the walk when we got to Old Gympie rd, several Noisy Friar Birds were in flowering Meleleuca trees, also a pair of Catbirds up a small tree by the edge of path,  not normal habitat. Many fig birds in fig trees (not a surprise !).

On return went over to a patch of riparian growth to check out sightings and was a pair of mistletoe birds, also possible sighting of White -cheeked honeyeater -seen in same area on last walk two years previously. One male Rose robin reported.

Several Red-browed finches around in grass at track side. One shining bronze cuckoo in small tree by edge of track sat for all to see and hear.
